Environment Sustainable Design

Project 1 : My Community My Commitment

For this project, we are assigned to form group of 10 to 11 to identify an environmental related issue in local community. In collaborating with Food Aid Foundation, we carry out project to help those needs by giving out food for them. All the material we use are highly recyclable or eco-friendly. We also paid a visit to orphanage in Puchong by using our product.

Environmental Sustainable Design Report from Kelvin Ng

Reflection:

I always think that contributing to the community is not my responsible which other people will do it. Yet, I realize that with a small effort I had put on this project, I gave warmness and happiness to those who needed and I felt like a 'human' again. Within this big and modern city, there are still love in the air, we just need to pour some water to let it sprout.

Building Construction I

Project 1 : Experiencing , Documentation and Analyzing Construction Process

With group of 8, we have to visit 3 different stages of construction progress of landed house either shophouses or terrace resident. An A3 report booklet are produced in this project.

A3 Report Part A

A3 Report Part B

Reflection:

In this project, I experienced difficult in communicating with the developer or contractor to get the permission for the site visit. However, we manage to visit two site with different stages. I also learned alot in how the site contractor manage their site and overcome the deflection.

Project 2 :Integrated Construction Detail / Drawing

Each of us are require to draw the detail of the retreat house in conjunction with studio's final project.

Reflection:

For this project, I think it is disturbing at the beginning which every time I imply concept in my conceptual design model I had to consider all the small detail. Yet, at the end of the project, I found that I am experiencing how it's going to be when I going to have a job later after I graduate. This might not be very pleasure project yet I like it and I hope to have more of this kinda project in future so I can advance more in conceptual and technical at the same time.

Design Studio II

Design Studio II

Design studio II hold 5 credits hours and have 2 project at total.

Project 1 Dramatic Abstraction

In this project, we are assigned to form group of 4 and given a building to study and analyse the architecture element of the building.
My group was given Maison Jaoul by Le' Corbusier, the first ever Brutalist architecture style.
A video and 10 abstract model from Maison Jaoul are produced.

Abstract Models

Final Submission

Reflection:

For this project, I learned alot about how the architecture express their concept and element into the design which provide function at the same time. The information of Maison Jaouls is very minimal on web which my group have to spend alot of time reading encyclopedia in library to search for the information. The model making is very fun and interesting that every time we finish one particle model we often ask for other's course mate if they can feel the expression of the abstract model we made which made a very good studio culture.

Project 2A :Site Condition and Analysis & Bird Watching Tower at Fraser Hill

In this part of project, the whole course are divided into two major group to analyse a given area in Fraser Hill, Pahang during the site visit. With the group of 5 in my previous project, my group are assigned to analyse Vegetation and Hydrology.

Paddock Group Site Analysis Report

Reflection:

In this project, I experienced how to work in a team, which sharing idea and synchronizing with each other is very important. Although we had some small quarrel and argue with each other, we manage to finish the site analysis.

Project 2B : Retreat House

In this part, I was assigned to design a retreat house for Richard Dawkins, a successful biologist in America. Based on the site context and needs of the specific client, we are required to design a ideal retreat house for them.

Invited Guest and Invigilator

here is a video I animated in my Computer Application Module about this building.
Reflection:

For this project, I spend whole week by sleeping average a couple hours daily just to finish the project on time with my detail orthographic drawing. Other than very detail drawing I'd made, I also explore alot on how the design affect the cost and together with building construction project, I learned how to do rational design which is buildable and affordable. I am so happy that my invigilator said it can be built and the drawing is very very detail.
