Method of Documentation and Measured Drawing

In this semester, we only have a single module which is Method of Documentation and Measured Drawing. My group are assigned to measure and record a building in Ipoh rented by Tzu Chi.

Project 1 : Sketchbook and Journal

For the very first project of the module, we were assigned to record the elements and details on site.
The drawing list include:
-Genius Loci
-Poetic Quality
-Cultural Attributes
-Technical / Construction

Objectives:
-to train students to be observant to their surrounding
-to instill the culture of documenting as part of learning process in architectural education
-to enhance the students' graphic communication skills in capturing important details and the spirit of the place

Learning Outcomes:
-identify and classify architectural historic structure
-recognize and recall architectural historic structure documentation method
-describe architectural cultural heritage
-relate how architecture influence its bigger content e.g. the urban setting, and its inhabitants
-capture the tangible and intangible essence that is contained within the architecture realm

Sketchbook and Journal from Kelvin Ng

Reflection:

For this part of the project, I'd learned how to capture the environment, feeling and the heart of a place, to illustrate the picture in our mind onto a paper. This project is very enjoyable and fun as developing the drawing is my favorite part.

Project 2 : Measured Drawing and Model

For this project, we are assigned to produce CAD drawing and model of our selected building to preserve the heritage and culture.

Objectives:
This project aims to produce a set of measured drawings of historical buildings or structures in a specific location, A report containing important and historical information of the building will complement the drawings. It is an on-site exercise where students are required to execute fieldwork and hands-on measurement exercise.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the project, students will be able to:
-recommend the appropriate method of architectural historic documentation
-recognize and recall techniques of measured drawing and documentation
-explain the as-built building constructions, architectural details and elements
-execute fieldwork and hands-on measurement exercise
-translate measured data into scaled drawings
-produce a report on the buildings highlighting its importance and historical significance

Reflection:

In this project, everything seems to be in order and arranged at the beginning. Until somethings went wrong on the plan, the whole progress is dragged until we quarrel with each other. It is very important with good leadership and tolerant between CAD members to tally all the drawing together. I am proud to say our drawing is based on real measurement after so many times of changing and rescaling the drawing.

Project 3 : Video and Report

Reflection:

For project 3, I had learned about important of preserving our culture and heritage decent by our ancestor. The heritage is very valuable yet  no one is willing to preserve it by their own due to huge economic cost on preserving them. This conclude to the words of World Heritage Organization's wisdom words : Our culture, our responsibility , our pride.
